I am a Kent based artist specialising in pen sketching and watercolour painting, traditionally known as pen & wash.
I was a practising architect for 25 years, working primarily with Richard Rogers as a Partner at his architectural practice in London. I had the opportunity to work on a number of very interesting built projects including The Channel 4 Headquarters, Montevetro Residential Building and Tower Bridge House all in London. Other built projects include The Minami Yamashiro Elementary School in Kyoto, Ashford Retail Outlet Centre in Kent and the BBVA Bancomer Headquarters Tower in Mexico City which opened in 2016.
Throughout my career I have particularly enjoyed developing architectural ideas and the visual expression of communicating those ideas through drawing. The ability to draw is very much part of the architectural process from early conceptual ideas to final building details and this has naturally led me to focus on pen sketching and watercolour painting as an artist. Pen & wash has always been my passion and has now become the sole focus of my creative work.
Having lived in Kent all my life, I appreciate its wonderful sense of community, vibrant towns, beautiful landscape and stunning coastal areas. Kentish architecture and landscape is incredibly rich in its variety and the seasonal changes provide great opportunities for pen and wash projects such as my studies of Whitstable. Blustery days by the seaside and places that evoke happy memories are a pleasure to capture in a painting and share.
Do have a look at the shop where framed or unframed original paintings and Giclee prints of my artwork can be purchased along with greeting cards. In addition to this, I do private commissions for clients requesting original artwork typically of their house or a building that they love; I also paint landscapes and coastal scenes for clients upon request.
